Bring Out Your Inner Story
Exmoor is a hidden treasure, an area valued by residents and visitors alike for its wilderness and tranquillity. We would like you to write a short story based on one of the themes below. The themes reflect aspects of Exmoor, but the story does not have to be specifically about Exmoor.
Age Categories & Themes
- Children (up to and including age 11 years). Write a short story based on the theme ‘A hidden treasure’. Max 500 words.
- Young Adults – 12 to 16 years inclusive. Write a short story based on the theme ‘A hidden treasure’. Max 1000 words.
- Adults – 17 years plus. Write a short story based on one of the following themes: ‘wilderness’ or ‘tranquillity’. Max 1000 words.
Rules and competition details
- Entry is free.
- Age group determined by age on 31st August 2008.
- Children’s entries may be handwritten. Entries in Young Adult and Adult age groups must be typed on single sided sheets of A4 paper.
- Submit your entry, together with a completed entry form (available from the Porlock Visitor Centre or download using one of the links below) by 31st August 2008.
- Please do not write your name or address on the same pages as your story. Your story will be judged anonymously. Only write your name and address on the entry form.
- Winners will be contacted by Sunday 14th September 2008. A list of winners will be available here on the Festival website and will also be posted in the Porlock Visitor Centre.
- The Adult winner will receive £50. Winners of the other categories will be awarded book tokens. Some non-winning entries may be commended. All winners and commended entries will be published here on the Festival website. We hope to publish the winner of the Adult category in a forthcoming issue of the Exmoor Review.

Limerick Competition
Free entry. Submit up to three limericks, each limerick to contain one or more of the following words: COLERIDGE, RANGER, SHEEP.
The winning entry and two commended entries will be announced at the Poetry Picnic on Saturday 13th September at 4 p.m. Winning/commended entries will receive a prize, and will be published in the autumn/winter issue of The Reviewer.
